Concrete Resurfacing vs. Replacement: When Each Makes Sense
Polymer overlay for $4/sq ft or full rip-and-pour for $12 — how to know which your slab needs.

Old concrete with surface damage may not need replacement. Polymer overlays bond a fresh, 1/8" to 1/2" layer over the old slab for a fraction of the cost.
Resurface when…
- Surface is spalled, pitted, or stained but flat
- Cracks are hairline and stable
- No heaving, settling, or rocking sections
Replace when…
- Sections have heaved or settled
- Cracks are wider than 1/4"
- Subgrade has failed (visible through tilted slabs)
- Reinforcement is exposed and rusted through
Cost
Resurfacing: $3–$7/sq ft. Replacement: $10–$16/sq ft (includes demo).
