Thickness is the single biggest cost lever in any concrete project. Here's the right number for every common use.

Walkways and small patios — 4 inches

Foot traffic only. 4 inches is plenty over a properly compacted 4-inch gravel base.

Driveways — 4 to 6 inches

4" for passenger cars on stable soil. 5–6" if you'll park trucks, RVs, or trailers.

Garage floors — 4 inches residential, 6 inches shop

Standard residential garages do fine with 4". Detached shops with lifts or heavy equipment need 6" with rebar.

Heavy equipment pads — 8 inches+

Generators, large HVAC units, agricultural equipment. Always engineered.

Adjust thickness and watch your yards (and budget) change in real time.
