Concrete Walkway Guide: Width, Thickness, Cost
How wide and thick a path should be, plus a simple formula for a curved walkway.

A great walkway is wide enough to walk comfortably, thick enough to last, and shaped to flatter the landscape.
Width
- 36" — single file, secondary paths
- 48" — main walks, two people side by side
- 60" — primary entrance paths to formal homes
Thickness — 4 inches is standard
Bump to 6" if a rider mower or wheelbarrow with heavy loads will cross.
Cost
$8–$15 per linear foot for a 3-ft wide path including basic finish. Curves add 10–20%.
Design tips
Match the home's architecture — straight for modern, curved for cottage. Slight gentle curves look intentional; sharp zigzags look amateur.
