Demolition is half the cost of any concrete replacement project. Doing it yourself can save $1,500 on a typical driveway.

Cost to hire

$2–$6 per square foot including haul-away. Reinforced concrete (rebar, mesh) runs at the high end because of cutting time.

DIY tools

  • Electric jackhammer rental — $75–$100/day
  • Sledgehammer for hand-breaking edges
  • Bolt cutters or angle grinder for rebar
  • Wheelbarrow and pickup truck for hauling

Disposal

Concrete recyclers accept clean rubble for free or for a small fee. Landfills charge $50–$120 per ton.
