Online Lender is the cheapest — saves $1,566 vs. the most expensive offer.

Effective APR (rate + fee amortized) matters more than sticker APR. The lowest sticker APR isn't always cheapest once fees are added in.

  • Cheapest total cost: Online Lender at 7.90% effective APR.
  • Lowest monthly payment: Credit Union at $494/mo (longer term = more interest).

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between APR and interest rate?

The interest rate is what the lender charges on the principal. APR bundles in origination and fees, so it's a better apples-to-apples number. Our tool also computes an 'effective APR' that amortizes flat fees over the term.

Should I always pick the lowest monthly payment?

No. Lower monthly payments usually mean a longer term, which means more total interest. Compare 'total paid' and 'total interest' — those are the numbers that matter for wealth.

Do origination fees really matter?

Yes. A $500 origination fee on a 3-year $10k loan is effectively an extra ~1.7% APR. Always factor them in.

What about prepayment penalties?

Most consumer loans in the U.S. don't have them, but some mortgages and auto loans do. Always read the fine print before making extra payments.

Can I save my loan comparisons?

Yes — with Freedom Fighter ($12/mo) you can save scenarios and share them with a spouse or advisor.
