Weekly overage: 370 min (49% above budget). Enforcing the limit reclaims ~548 hours/year.

  • Screens off 60 min before bed — the single biggest lever for kid sleep quality.
  • Put the household phone charger in the kitchen — including yours. Norms travel up as well as down.
  • Replace, don't just remove — trade 30 min of screens for a specific alternative (walk, book, board game).

Frequently asked questions

What's a healthy screen time limit by age?

AAP-aligned guideline: none under 2, ~60 min/day ages 2–5, ~90 min ages 6–12, ~120 min for teens. Educational time doesn't have to count.

Should educational screens count?

Generally not — but only truly interactive learning (Duolingo, Khan Academy). Passive YouTube 'lessons' still count.

What about weekends?

A modest weekend boost (60–90 more min) is fine. Avoid unlimited-weekend rules — they undo the weekday habit fast.
